A Word From
Your President
Dear Members:
I thought I would take this opportunity to
congratulate the membership on some of the good deeds that are being
done. We have matched a $2,000.00 grant from the Wisconsin Law
Foundation to the 180° Juvenile Diversion Program.
Therefore, that worthwhile program has recently received $4,000.00 to
assist in its efforts. We are again granting a $1,000.00
scholarship to a student from each of the state's law schools.
The Board of Directors will be reviewing applications from students
attending Marquette and UW-Madison Law Schools who have a substantial
contact with Waukesha County or who have a strong likelihood of living
and practicing in Waukesha County after graduation. These
donations and scholarships are examples of the opportunities which
exist for our membership to provide assistance to our legal
community. We should all be very proud.
As always, please remember that the Board of
Directors meets monthly and welcome any Agenda items or participation
at our meetings.
Very truly
yours,
Doug

CLE on the High Seas II
Even in a bad economy, two things are
certain, (a) lawyers need CLE credit, and (b) everyone needs a vacation!
In conjunction with his law school, the Nashville
School of Law, WBCA member Robert Stack is coordinating a CLE Cruise to
take place February 19-26, 2011. Known as CLE on the High Seas
II, the cruise will take place aboard the Norwegian Sun, cruising from
Miami to the Western Caribbean. This will be the second CLE on
the High Seas, the first having sailed to the Eastern Caribbean in
February of 2009. During that event 12 CLE credits were awarded
for Wisconsin, and 10 each for Tennessee and Minnesota. For CLE
II similar credits are planned.
The best part is all you pay is the cruise
fare! The CLE is FREE! It may seem like a long time out,
but look at it this way, once you pay your deposit of $500 per couple
(direct to NCL) you can pay as little as $100 per month and your cruise
will be fully paid well before sailing. The cruise fare for two
people is $1,825 for a Balcony cabin and $1,485 for an Ocean View
cabin. There are several special amenities planned for the
group as well, including $100 per cabin stateroom credit and a private
cocktail reception.
Information on the cruise is available at www.highseaslegalsed.com .

CLE-approved training program without charge for lawyers who agree to
provide direct pro bono legal services to poor people in Legal Action's
39-county service area. Advance registration (before 5:00 p.m. on
October 30, 2009), is required; seating is limited for some of the
seminars. More detailed information about the training and a
registration form are available online at http://www.badgerlaw.net/Home/PublicWeb/LAW,

For more
information about the pro bono opportunities offered by the VLP,
contact Patricia Risser, at pzr@legalaction.org or 414-274-3063

Participating in the Volunteer Lawyers Project is an
effective way for lawyers to meet their professional pro bono

protect the safety, stability and health of their families, maintain
safe and affordable housing, and secure benefits that will assure food,
medical care and financial support.
