A Word From Your President

Dear Fellow Members:

Thank you to all who attended the Ethics Seminar on November 9 and who made it a success.  On December 8 the WCBA is hosting the GAL Seminar and the Holiday Party.  Please go to the WCBA  website for specifics.

The dates have also been set for the Annual Judges' Update Luncheon, the Support Staff Luncheon, and the Annual Meeting.  All of the dates, times, and locations can be found on the WCBA website.

I received a memo from the State Bar of Wisconsin regarding its Fee Arbitration Program.  The State Bar is looking for volunteers to serve as arbitrators.  If you would like further information regarding the program, please contact me or go to the State Bar website
.

The Board has heard from several members that collegiality is important and that the WCBA should continue to foster relationships between its members.  To that end, the Board has been discussing different ways and events to accomplish that goal.  While the Board understands that it cannot please everyone with each decision, it wants to promote events that are well-liked and well-attended by the membership.  As such, if you have any thoughts or ideas regarding a potential event for the WCBA to sponsor, please contact any member of the Board.

Very truly yours,

Michelle E. Martin
President

Scriptus/Website:
Danni Caldwell has updated the website as needed with Section information.  The email address list for Scriptus recipients was updated as well, and the next Scriptus will go out the last week of September.  We will pass out information at the Ethics Seminar to members asking them to add the WCBA as a "Safe sender" for emails so that our emails are not rejected to our members.

Justice Geske Forum - Eric Larson:
Eric Larson and Sally from the Plowshare Center in downtown Waukesha gave a presentation regarding the Plowshare Center's 6th Annual February Forum.  The Plowshare is seeking a donation/sponsorship from the WCBA.  The theme for the event is "The Human Face of the Future, Imagining a Just Society."  The event is held the 1st Saturday in February from 9am to noon at Carroll University, and usually draws 300 to 400 attendees.  Janine Geske will be one of the speakers at the event this year.  After discussion, the Board agreed to donate $200 to the event to be designated as a sponsorship fee for Justice Geske's appearance.  We will also ask for information regarding how the WCBA's name will be advertised, and further discussion will be had as to whether we want to set up a table at Carroll during the event.  LRIS, Self-Help Clinic and mediation were suggested ideas.

Miscellaneous:
Cathy Warmington of the Mediation Center has expressed an interest in speaking at a section meeting, or possibly the annual meeting.  The Family Law Section will consider having her speak at one of their section meetings.
