A Word From Your President

Dear Fellow Members:

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Seems to be the theme so far this year!

Thanks to all of our members and their staffs that made our Support Staff Luncheon great! I have been asked a few times for the name of the comedian. His name is Fred Klett and you can find him online at http://www.fredklett.com/

We received some outstanding nominations this year for the Waukesha County Bar Association Annual Awards. Please watch your email for an announcement of the honorees within the next few days.

The Annual Awards Dinner is scheduled for Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Milwaukee Marriott West. Please mark your calendars now so you can attend this event and support our honorees. This not a members-only event so bring your significant other for a fun night out!

Did you know that as a member of the Waukesha County Bar Association, you can post job openings and employment opportunities free of charge on the bar association website? You can also view any job posting that others may have placed. Check out the front page of the website for the link to the "Employment Page".

If there is any other way in which your Bar Association can be of benefit to you, please do not hesitate to let me know.

With warm regards,

Christy D’Angelo

New Prisoner Corridors will Affect Family and Civil

The new 'prisoner transport' building should become operational in late March or April.  When that happens, jail prisoners will no longer generally be brought to courtrooms thru the public hallways of the Waukesha County Courthouse.  While this will have its greatest impact on criminal court operations, it will also affect family and civil court.

Any court proceeding that involves a person who is in custody will be conducted in one of the courtrooms with a direct connection to the county jail.  That means, for example, that a divorce or civil trial where a party is in custody will have to be moved to a jail connected courtroom, unless that person can appear by phone or by video conference.  Lawyers will need to contact the clerk for the court involved as soon as it is known that someone in custody is involved in a non-criminal case.
