A Word From
Your President
Dear Colleagues:
To those of you who did not brave the cold and snow
for the Support Staff luncheon, you missed a wonderful event and a
wonderful opportunity to let your staff know how much you appreciate
their efforts. The entertainment was Ross Johnson, a psychic, who
amazed the audience. Keep in mind this event for next year to
show your appreciation for your assistants.
Each year the Bar Association honors members of our
Bar for Lifetime Achievement, Community Service and Distinguished
Member. The Board is taking nominations for any of those awards
for the next 6 weeks. Please contact a board member with your
nomination or go to the Website for more information about the
awards. The dinner honoring those chosen will be April 26th, 2008
at The Legend's Golf Club in Wales.
Each of my president's letters has provided you with
updates of the activities of the your Bar Association. The
Waukesha County Bar Association is one of the largest bar associations
in the state. We are also one of the most active with social events,
free CLE opportunities and community service efforts occurring almost
monthly. The board strives to provide what our members find most
helpful to their practices and their community. I encourage you to get
involved and take advantage of all that is offered by the Bar
Association.

Calling All Attorneys!
The Waukesha County Family Legal Clinic began offering free, 20 minute,
legal consultations to family court litigants in December of 2007 with
the assistance of 13 Volunteer Attorneys. The Clinics are held on
Wednesday evenings from 4:30-6:30 pm in the Court Self- Help Center,
Room C-108 of the Courthouse. A grant from the State Bar of Wisconsin
provides administrative assistance as well as malpractice insurance to
attorneys during their volunteer service and a partnership with Legal
Action of Wisconsin's Volunteer Lawyers Program provides up to 12 free
CLE credits.
As the demand for this service grows, so does our need for additional
volunteer attorneys. If you are interested, call Tera
Nehring Court Self Help Program Coordinator at 262-896-6870 or send an
email to tera.nehring@wicourts.gov to request a
further information.
We hope to see you soon, participating in what has already proven to be
a beneficial and rewarding program for litigants and attorneys alike!

Member News
We Need Your
Nominations
As Marjorie mentions in her President’s Letter, above, we are in need
of nominations for our three annual awards: Lifetime Achievement,
Distinguished Member, and Community Service. The latter can be awarded
to a non-WCBA member; the first two are restricted to members of the
WCBA. The 2007 award recipients were Judge Neal Nettesheim, Lifetime
Achievement, Attorney William Reilly, Distinguished member, and local
philanthropist Ralph Zick, Community Service. A form to assist in
submitting a name or names for an award is on the WCBA website,
although you can make a nomination by simply submitting a letter to any
WCBA officer or Board member. The categories and criteria for each
award are:
Lifetime Achievement Award:
10 consecutive years or more of WCBA membership who has achieved
excellence in the field of law over a substantial time period, has
consistently conducted himself or herself with dignity, has portrayed
the WCBA and the Waukesha legal community in a positive light, and has
or had a license in good standing. The nominee need not be retired.
Community Service Award:
Need not be an attorney, but must have provided volunteer, community,
or public service to any part of Waukesha County over many years,
consistently conducted him or herself with dignity, helped Waukesha
County people, and portrayed the Waukesha community in a positive light.
Distinguished Member Award:
A member of WCBA for at least the past 5 years and who has a license in
good standing (not disbarred), who has served the WCBA with distinction
by devoting time and effort to improve and promote this organization,
has promoted high standards of fairness, justice, and ethical conduct
within the legal profession and has portrayed WCBA and the Waukesha
legal community in a positive light.
Awards can be
made posthumously. Put your thinking caps on and make some submissions.
We need your input!
Mock
Trial Tournament News
Robyn Schuchardt and I again served as coordinators for the
Waukesha Regional of the high school Mock Trial tournament. Mukwonago
High School was our regional winner. Our thanks to all of our volunteer
judges without whom the tournament could not take place.
Robyn and I have decided to retire from our role as coordinators
after many years, and allow others to take over. We may have some
volunteers, but if you have an interest, please contact either one of
us, and we can pass your name on to the State Bar. I will continue to
serve as a facility liaison for the new coordinators.
Finally, on a related note, the Pewaukee High School mock trial
team is in need of an attorney-coach. They competed this year without
the benefit of an attorney-coach, and were definitely at a
disadvantage. Their teacher coach indicated to us that they are an
ambitious and dedicated group of kids, so your efforts would be
fruitful if you decided to take this on. If interested, please contact
Amy Budde at Pewaukee High School, 262-691-2100, ext. 6207 or buddamy@pewaukee.k12.wi.us .

will be a memorial service for Ross on Friday, April 18 at the
