A Word From
Your President
Dear Colleagues:
Happy Holidays to
everyone. The Christmas party at the Delafield Brewhaus was attended by
more than 100 members despite the fact that it snowed on us once
again. All members should consider attending in the future.
The open house format with appetizers gives everyone the chance to
mingle and talk to fellow members. We also hold a raffle of door
prizes every year.
The next Bar event is the annual Judges’ update luncheon on January 7,
2008 at noon at the County Springs Hotel. Many members of our judiciary
attend the event, and each presiding judge, our Chief Judge, and the
Court of Appeals provides an update as to issues or changes in each
circuit court division and District II Court of Appeals, the Waukesha
Courthouse, and the judiciary as a whole.
Following the annual Judges update is the biggest event for the Bar
Association each year, the Support Staff luncheon, February 4, 2008,
noon, at the Country Springs Hotel. For a nominal cost, each bar member
may bring one staff member for an appreciation luncheon and
entertainment. Please mark your calenders.
Best wishes for a safe holiday and new year.
Sincerely,
Marjorie A. Wendt
President
Board Minutes and
Treasurer’s Report
No Board meeting was
held before the writing of this newsletter, so there are no approved
minutes to include. Please check the January issue for minutes of the
November, 2007 meeting.
(Editor’s Note) Next WCBA Board meeting is January 17, 2008 - Room G-55
of the County Administration Building.
From the
Clerk of Courts
Holiday Greetings to all members of the Waukesha Bar - on behalf of the
staff in the Clerk of Court's office, we thank you for your patience,
good humor, and cooperation throughout the year. It is our
pleasure to serve you and the citizens of Waukesha County and we all
wish you a safe and happy holiday season.

CLE Approval
The Fall Ethics Seminar sponsored by WCBA on November 6, 2007 was
approved for 3.5 CLE and EPR credits. The entire list of approved
seminars sponsored by WCBA , along with the credits approved, can be
found on our website.
Condolences
Member William Denny passed away on December 4, 2007. Our condolences
to his family and colleagues.
Support Staff Luncheon Date Confusion
The date for the Support Staff Luncheon is Monday, February 4th. It is
not the 5th of February as was indicated in the summer mailing
materials. Please correct your calendars and look for the RSVP form in
the mail in early January.
Assistance Sought
The Waukesha County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council has an
opening for a public member. About six meetings per year, with
variable committee work, are involved. Please contact Judge Mac
Davis by January 15th with questions or if interested.
New
on the WCBA Web Site
I have
accomplished my goal of posting old editions of the Scriptus on the
website. I was able to locate editions that date back to April, 1971.
Simply go to http://waukeshabar.org/scriptus_archive.html
to access any of them. They are in groups of three or four years and
further divided by decades.
If any of our senior colleagues happen to have any editions from before
1971 or the early 70's (there seems to be some gaps), I would love to
get my hands on them to scan and add to our collection. Many thanks to
Steve Tikalsky who shared his personal collection with me; I was able
to fill in a few editions missing from Joe Melendes’ 1975-2001
collection.
I had fun reading the old editions, and I think you will too. Our
association has gone through many changes over the years, but in many
ways we are much the same, particularly in terms of our efforts to
educate our members and provide networking and social opportunities.
As for the collection, it will be boxed up and mailed to the State
Historical Society for cataloguing and preservation.
I will be uploading photos from the Holiday Party next week. Check the
website page for a link. Contrary to popular belief, I will not accept
bribes or gratuities in exchange for removing photos believed to be
less than flattering from the website!
