Waukesha County Bench Bar Committee Meeting Notes

The Bench Bar committee met Wed. July 21st.  Members present included Hon. Michael Bohren, Hon. Mac Davis, Patrick Conklin, Michael Kaiser.  Other members not present include Commissioner Linda Georgeson, Doug Swanson, and Craig Kuhary.

1.      Discussion regarding Courthouse physical renovation:  Continued plans to add inmate transport “tower” with construction to begin late summer and completion by year end.  Tower will connect jail to first and second floor courtroom.

                -Reserve Judge Mawdsley will be filling in as needed along with other reserve judges.

                -Judge Stilling and Judge Gundrum will both spend time mentoring with other judges and attending the Judicial College with
                  Reserve Judges handling calendar in their respective Branches as needed.

    -Bench members of the committee reiterate the age-old suggestions to do your research and don’t make assumptions when
     briefing the Court and making arguments, regardless whether new or seasoned judge is sitting.  Lay the foundation for the
     law and your argument each and every time.

     3.     The Committee discussed improving visibility and awareness of this committee to better foster communication between the Bench and Bar, encourage members of both groups to voice concerns to committee members.  The Committee agreed to publish brief notes from our meetings to share with all the issues that were discussed.
